Wolverine Advocacy:
Volunteers in the Wolverine Advocates program work to communicate their support of public higher education to elected officials in the state of Michigan. Advocates are asked to:
- Contact their elected representative three times per year about the appropriation bill when prompted by the Office of Government Relations (usually in January, late-spring and then when the budget is finalized) by email, letter or phone.
- Participate, as the UM Alumni Association's guest, in the Michigan Alumni Reception in Lansing each spring along with University President Mary Sue Coleman, campus leaders, state legislators and their staff and other advocates.
- Respond to "calls to action" from the Office of Government Relations when the University's leaders ask alumni to contact their legislators as needed about non-budget issues.
Alumni Ambassadors Program:
Enrollment at UM-Flint is at an all-time high, and to keep that momentum going, we need your help. Become part of this award winning program and help us reach out to the next generation of Wolverines. This program has something for everyone. Opportunities include: encouraging high school students to apply, handing out scholarship payments, attending college fairs, and much more.
Internships:
Providing our students with internship opportunities is one of the best gifts you can give to a student. These provide the student with an opportunity to gain real word experience while bringing new ideas from the classroom to your business.
Chancellor's Commencement Corps:
Graduation day is the culmination of years of hard work and sacrifice by our students and their family. Our Chancellor's Commencement Corps works to make graduation day extra special for students and their family. Corps members work to welcome families, take family photos, sign up students for the Alumni Association and a number of other jobs on that day. This program is fun, easy and very important!
Student Welcome And Finals Week:
The Alumni Society partners with the Office of Student Life throughout the year to enhance the student experience. Each fall the Alumni Society welcomes students to campus by giving away ice cream during the welcome picnic. The Alumni Society also engages in activities that support students during final exam weeks.
Spirit Events:
Want to hold a game watching party, family day at local museums, bus trip, or other event that allows alumni to gather and join in fellowship? Spirit events are for you! These are smaller event that are not part of the Alumni Relations annual calendar and are led by alumni volunteers. Call us with your ideas and we will work to help you implement your event.
Signature Events:
There is no question about it, alumni like to party. But more importantly, alumni like to party with a purpose. Throughout the year alumni help to plan and host several signature events. These events celebrate alumni success, raise money for students, rally around our sports teams, and much more. We always have a need for leadership in this area.
Board Service:
There are two alumni groups that that work closely with the Flint Campus. Each of them has their strengths in specific program areas. The processes for being elected to these boards vary and any questions about service should be directed to the Alumni Relations staff or group leadership.
UM-Club of Greater Flint (Focus on Michigan Athletics and giving to UM-Flint Scholarships)
Alumni Society of the University of Michigan-Flint (Focuses specifically on programs that support campus life, alumni engagement, and admissions for the Flint Campus)
